Background

The Young Carers Project (YCP) has been successfully working with young people since 1999. Our remit is to find hidden young carers and raise awareness of young carers issues.

The current main funding bodies of the YCP are The Fairer Scotland Fund, Comic Relief and the Henry Smith Charity.

Due to particular family situations many young people do not want to be identified as young people who are caring, they do not want to be singled out as different. They are often excluded from the normal childhood support networks.

The YCP has therefore a remit to try and include young people and children up to the age of 21 years, who through family illness do not receive the support and services that others in an exclusive society expect.

The YCP is one of the services managed by the Dundee Carers Centre.
